In a unique retelling to the classic fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk,” Piers Anthony and J.R. Rain take you back to the magical land beyond the clouds. Back to the land of the Giants. Back to adventure and sorcery and awe-inspiring wonder.
In the real world, Jack works for a jerk. Luckily, the pretty receptionist makes his days bearable. But when Jack discovers he’s been fired, his simple life crumbles around him; that is, until he comes across the magic beans.
Now with a giant beanstalk growing outside his downtown New York apartment, Jack has a choice to make follow the beanstalk up or pretend it’s not there. After all, he does seem to be the only one who can see it. Moreover, the beanstalk almost beckons him...
Putting aside his fears, Jack climbs out from his apartment window and onto the beanstalk, where climbs up and up and up...finally emerging through the clouds and into a land of dreams. Literally.
Almost immediately, he’s confronted by a hungry giant...and someone else. Someone he never expected. Someone he had long admired from afar. Now a team, Jack and Harriet seek answers to their dilemma, and find themselves in the middle of an age-old war for the land beyond the clouds. Battling evil kings, gods and giants, Jack is about to discover that he's much more than he ever dreamed...and that he may never return home again. And that’s just fine by him.
After all, the land beyond the clouds isn't that bad. Of course, he just has to survive first...

Two great writers together producing a vastly entertaining work with humor, a bit of insight to human and giant nature, and an old fairy tale redone with a twist. This is a work with no real sturm, drang, or agnst - just a fun read for a rainy afternoon. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fun read.Product details

Jack and the Giants J R Rain Piers Anthony 9781500705718 Books Reviews
I was truly surprised to find that this book reads like it was written by a 6th grader. The dialogue was simplistic and predictable and the premise of the entire story was unimaginative. Not what I expected at all. And please do not think that it would be appropriate for a middle school student in content. It's not.
It was a reasonably enjoyable book. I read it because I had bought it and was curious as to what it was like.I would recommend this book to a young adult.
Once again I have found a good book in this story. I found it hard to put it down until the end.
I confess, I was a bit disappointed in this book. It just didn't grab me. I've enjoyed books by both Piers Anthony, whom I've read for years, and JR Rain, whom I've discovered more recently, and was intrigued by the idea of a book they wrote together, but the story just wasn't that good. The characters weren't terribly well-developed or likable, and the story line was shallow. Not my favorite.
Unexpected twists and turns, and you cannot depend on the fairy tale to guess what will happen. A triumph of mind over matter. I did like both JatJ and Dolfin Tayle.
I was actually a little disappointed by this book. It is very short, so the disappointment didn't last very long. I think the premise was cute/amusing (the reason I bought it in the first place). However, the tale itself was so shallow, even the authors seemed to have been glad it ended. The ending? I think they had to have been up drinking one night, throwing around possible endings to get the misery over with, and chose the first one they came up with that made a little bit of sense. When I got to the end, I thought something to the effect of, "Come on, guys! Is THAT the best you could come up with?" Part of my disappointment was that I had just read another of their books ("Aladdin Relighted") and had fun with that one. So, would I recommend this? If you like silly fantasy, and want to read it quickly, go ahead and try this one.
I really enjoyed reading A Spell For Chameleon when I was in High School. This book had many similar elements to it that would appeal to a teenage boy. The hero is an adaptable young man, who is able to think up creative solutions to unusual problems and adventures. There are attractive women that he gets to see naked, and in sexy clothing. A little bit of kissing and touching, but nothing too graphic. As a grown man, it was easy to read and entertaining enough. It's definitely written for a less mature audience though.
Two great writers together producing a vastly entertaining work with humor, a bit of insight to human and giant nature, and an old fairy tale redone with a twist. This is a work with no real sturm, drang, or agnst - just a fun read for a rainy afternoon. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fun read.
